Parking for Visiting Scholars

Car: While it is possible to drive using a valid international driver’s license, if you will be driving regularly we recommend that you obtain a California Driver's License. You will be required to register your vehicle and purchase liability insurance. Driver’s license and registration is handled by the California Department of Motor Vehicles, which has offices in Goleta and Santa Barbara.

Parking: If you are thinking of bringing a car, keep in mind that there is a fee to park on campus. Short and long-term parking information can be found on the Transportation and Parking Services website.

You may want to purchase a long-term parking permit at a more economical rate of $56.00 per month. Be sure to identify yourself as "Department visiting scholar/faculty member" to obtain the academic permit eligibility status. For permits of 30 days or longer, an account must be created online.

  1. To create a parking account, please go to the TPS website: www.tps.ucsb.edu
  2. Please click on the "Buy Your Parking Permit Here" button in the upper left corner.
  3. Click on any of the links on the next page i.e. "Manage My Account"

At this point, you will need to click on the "newest users click here to create an account" link.  This account must be created before you can purchase the appropriate permit at TPS.  They offer both a month (30 days) permit at $56, and a quarterly or annual permit.

A parking account must include a valid e-mail address and their vehicle information (license plate #, make, model, year, color, and VIN). All 30-DAY permits and Daily permits have to be purchased at our parking office, TPS. The parking office is located in Building 381 across from Harder Stadium in Lot 30 should you need to visit. Their hours are Monday-Friday 7:30am-5pm. The Permit Sales & Information contact is here.
