Leadership

  • SASC Director

 

Overall management of the South Hall Administrative Support Center, including policies and procedures, is the responsibility of the center's Director. They collaborate with department and program chairs on long-term planning, special projects, appointments, and other departmental matters, including instructional computing. The Director also serves as a liaison to the Divisional Control Point. They provide leadership and oversight on all financial and academic personnel matters, including budgeting, recruitment, merits and promotions, and curriculum planning. The Director also administers sub-0 for all departments and programs and handles space and technical resource management, facilities, and safety.

  • Student Services Manager

The Student Services Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Student Services Unit. They are responsible for the development and implementation of student services policies and procedures. Additionally, they are responsible for curriculum planning and course scheduling, master course approval, and submission of GE proposals. They also oversee faculty workload reporting, graduate admissions, and funding. They handle academic student employee appointments and payroll, program and enrollment data reporting and they are also the supervisor of Student Services staff.

  • Financial & Academic Services Manager

The Financial & Academic Services Manager is responsible for high-level management and executing a full range of administrative services for several academic departments and programs. This role encompasses daily operations in general administration, including academic and student support services, financial management, curriculum development, staff and academic personnel, and technical support services. The position also involves strategic planning, policy implementation, and serving as a liaison between various campus units. Additionally, the incumbent ensures compliance with a variety of policies and provides professional development opportunities for staff​. Additional duties include:

  • Administrative Management: Oversee daily operations and administrative functions for multiple academic departments and programs, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to policies.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage budgets, financial planning, and reporting, including monitoring expenditures and reconciling accounts.
  • Academic and Student Support: Provide support for curriculum development, course scheduling, and academic advising, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
  • Staff and Personnel Management: Supervise staff, manage personnel actions, and coordinate recruitment, hiring, and training processes.
  • Strategic Planning: Engage in strategic planning and policy implementation, contributing to the development and execution of long-term goals for the departments.

  • Administrative Coordinator

 

Serve as the first point of contact in the South Hall Administrative Support Center for undergraduate and graduate students and faculty from the departments of English, English for Multilingual Students Program (EMS), Linguistics, Philosophy, and the Writing Program, providing general information on advising students on general department/program procedures, academic, and financial policies/procedures. Organizes supplies procurement, facilities liaison: work requests, emergencies, mail routing, printer and copier codes, troubleshooting, services calls, key and door code management and distribution, one-time room reservations, administrative projects for the SASC staff, and academic projects for department faculty. Coordinates the teaching evaluation process for faculty and teaching assistants. Textbook and desk copy orders. Instructor office hour listing and door cards.OISS point of contact for general processing, pick up, and deliveries. Recruitment support for the AP Coordinator. Travel and entertainment arrangements. Provides administrative assistance to the SASC staff. Department Safety Representative.

Advises faculty on policies and procedures that govern the full range of accounting processes, gift and award administration, and academic and staff payroll. Responsible for assisting faculty with logistical arrangements and all financial aspects of conferences, colloquiums, seminars, and events.

Manages all services and systems supporting research, instruction, and administrative functions for the English Department and the SASC, while coordinating with UCSB's College of Letters & Science IT unit (LSIT) in its role of supporting common operational and technical resources. Maintains high availability of the English Department's many research and other web sites. Researches and deploys new/upgraded IT services to meet the functional goals of the English department and SASC. Systems include 16+ linux and Windows servers and 30+ WordPress sites, data resources, and digital services for research, instruction, and collaboration. Research systems deployment involves working with faculty to provide high-level systems support, recommendations, and planning for multiple IT-oriented research projects and online resources; and on researching, designing, and deploying new/upgraded IT services that advance departmental and SASC IT resources. Meets with faculty on their needs and evaluates software deployments to meet those needs, e.g. wikis, document management systems, GPS/mapping sites, collaborative annotation systems, media archives, et cetera.
